Miriam Karmel
Miriam Karmel’s stories have appeared in Bellevue Literary Review, Water~Stone Review, Alaska Quarterly, and others. Her story, “The King of Marvin Gardens” was anthologized in Milkweed Edition’s 2008 Fiction on a Stick. Subtle Variations and Other Stories was the winning selection in the inaugural First Fiction contest, sponsored by Holy Cow! Press and the Lindquist & Vennum Foundation. Her awards include: Carol Bly Nonfiction Awards in 2007 for “Tortilla Española” and in 2008 for “The Rain in Spain”; Writers Rising Up 2009 Carol Bly Short Story Contest, “Happy Chicken”; 2014 Waasnode Prize and publication in Passages North, “Pocket Full of Posies”; and 2015 Moment Karma Fiction Award for “Summer is for People.”
